Built Tough is an Understatement

When the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) issued a tender contract for two rock-solid workboats for high-stakes hydrographic surveying and underwater mine countermeasures, they selected a Kiwi legend: Surtees Boats.

Meet Pathfinder and Hammerhead—two Surtees 750 Workmates used by the Royal New Zealand Navy’s specialist littoral warfare unit, HMNZS Matataua, to handle hydrographic surveying and underwater mine countermeasure operations.

Why did the NZDF select Surtees to get the job done and keep their crew safe in harsh waters? Simple: “Built Tough” is an understatement. Surtees boats are rigid, constructed with six full-length underfloor stringers; offer unmatched safety and buoyancy with airtight, sealed side chambers; provide rock-solid stability at rest thanks to their legendary water ballast system; and meet the toughest global maritime safety standards with CE Certification.

When failure isn’t an option, the military bets on Surtees strength. Proven in the toughest conditions. Built right here in NZ.
