2016 Surtees Boats Fishing Comp Results

Stunning Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty played host to the 2016 Surtees Boats Fishing Competition. With over 50 boats competing to win $10,000 cash and a stake in the huge prize pool, the competition was going to be fierce!

Saturday saw sunny conditions as the boats headed out early, with White Island being a favourite spot for some. The team from Fishing and Adventure hooked into some good Kingfish, with the biggest tipping the scales at 18.8kg - good enough for second place.

That night crews gathered at the Whakatane Game Fishing Club to share stories, eat and rehydrate. The club is a great place to visit with some mammoth fish hung proudly on the wall (makes for some great reading).

The next morning, a front had blown in so sea conditions were less than ideal. Whakatane is the home of Surtees, so the boats are built to handle the conditions. Some Skippers reported excellent fishing getting their limit in only a couple of hours.

Sunday evening saw the prize giving, where Ben Brown of Heavy Metal 2 won best Snapper at 5.69kg and 'Cause I Can' took a clean sweep on Trevally.

A big thanks to our loyal customers and sponsors for making the event such a success.
