The 8th annual Surtees fishing comp was held over the weekend of 20-21 April in some testing weather conditions. Thankfully the boats and crews were up to the task with over 200 anglers and 89 boats entering.
This year sees Surtees celebrating 20 years in the business, so the event was suitably the biggest and best ever with over 30k worth of prizes up for grabs. With so many goodies on the line competition was always going to be fierce (just like the weather!).
Biggest snapper went to Frances Allerby with 6.73kg. The Tarakihi section was sewn up by the boat 'Wild Side', taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd with Gary Ericksen having the winning fish at 1.23kg. Paddy Darkin took out Kahawai with 2.82kg. Shawn Ireton of 'A Salt Weapon' took out Trevally with a 2.05kg and Lee Marshall on 'K'otic' won first prize with a 1.11kg Crayfish. A great result all round!
A big thanks to all those who eagerly attended, our sponsors and everyone who made the event happen. Proceeds were donated to the Edgecumbe Voluntary Fire Brigade. For photos visit theĀ Surtees Facebook page.
Next years event will be held on the weekend of the 26 - 27 April 2014.
